That Food From That Place

11/19/11

The Mission (North Park)

This is a San Diego hot spot. Open from 7am-3pm, on the weekends it’s always packed. I live across the street (Don’t stalk me please) and I can always see the line out the door. Today my roommate Jason and I needed some breakfast and looking out the window I saw no line. It was also 1:30pm so that helps but it was still packed inside. Basically be prepared to wait as it’s a very popular place, and for a good reason. It’s delicious.

I’ve only been here a few times because it’s always so busy but its always good. We got in and were seated promptly (lucky) and got a 2 person table. The layout is nice but can be kind of crowded if its packed like it was for us. You have your own table but they are so close to each other you might as well be sharing a big table. It’s not bad though.

I got the French Toast that they are known for and added the 2 scrambled eggs and bacon. I had coffee to drink and also got an orange juice when I got my food. The french toast comes with a berry medley and is delicious. The eggs and bacon were fresh and great too. The orange juice is amazing. I’m not sure if they make it themselves but it was so fresh and amazing! I definitely recommend the OJ if you like juice. They have a wide range of coffee drinks as well but I opted for the house blend.

With the quick service, even when busy, and delicious food I can see why this place is always packed. If you are in the neighborhood and have some time it’s worth the wait for sure!

What I had:

Coffee: $2.00

French Toast: $7.95

+eggs/bacon: $2.00

Large OJ: $2.95

Total: $14.90

(+tax/tip)

Sorry for the delay!

So I’ve been gone for a few weeks with work and super busy the week I’ve been back. Super inconvenient considering all the new followers I got just before I left! (Thank you!)

So now that I’m back to my normal schedule you should see more frequent updates on here.

If you have any suggestions on places you want to see or think I should check out please let me know! I’ll do my best to answer any questions or hit up certain spots if I can. Even if you drop me a line to say you went somewhere that was really good or really bad I’d appreciate it! I look forward to hearing from some of you.

Street Side Thai Kitchen 9/6/11

Went to get some Thai food at this place in North Park* at this spot down the street after work with Caesar** and Erica.

The atmosphere in here was pretty chill. It’s a family style restaurant but was pretty dimly lit which is not good for photos. The food options were plenty and the menu was cool. The wait staff was awesome and really friendly. They had a beer special so of course we got that to start.

The food options are cool. I’m not a huge fan of the super spicy food and you can get your meal rated on a scale from 1-10. Caesar is a spicy food guy and he said anything over 7 at this place and he can’t finish the meal.

Overall the food was really good and the service was on point. A good spot if you are in North Park and craving some Thai food and a chill environment.

What we had:

Caesar: Moo Tom Yun (rice noodles): $7.95

Erica: Drunken Noodle Chicken- $8.95

Me: Pad Thai Chicken- $8.95

Beer special: $4  X4= $16

Total: $45.10 for all 3 of us

*I live in North Park so a lot of places will be from around my apartment

** Caesar is my roommate and we usually get food together so you’ll see him pop up on here a lot.

9/7/11- The Kebab Shop

Marcs and I braved the heat today and cruised downtown to get some food at The Kebab Shop.

I had a lamb Doner Kebab and some hummus with a pita.

We went at about 12:15 so it was kind of busy but we seemed to beat the rush as more people came in after we had already sat down. I like the system they had it was quick and efficient for the most part. You walk in and order then sit down and they call your name when your order is ready. As it got busier the line got pretty backed up because there is only one register and it’s right next to the door.

I wanted to get a picture of the rotisserie that the meat was cooking on but it was pretty crowded and they got a little sketch when I started taking pictures.

Overall the food was delicious and I highly recommend it as it fills you up but leaves you feeling good afterwards unlike some meals.

What I had:

Lamb Doner: $6.79

Hummus: $3.99

Soda: $1.89

Total: $13.65

Riki Sushi- 9/4/11

Caesar and I went to this sushi spot around the corner from our apt. They just opened about a month and a half ago according the to the guy who took our order. The atmosphere is nice. Pretty family friendly. We sat at a table b/c the bar was full otherwise I typically like to sit at the bar.

Between the 2 of us we ordered 5 Sushi rolls and I got an Asahi Japanese beer. They apparently had a drink special so we got some saki with the beer for free. No complaints here.

The food was awesome. There are so many options and we got a pretty good variety.

If you are in North Park and want some sushi, check this place out for sure!

What we had:

- 1 Shrimp Sushi

- 1 T.J. Roll

- 1 Dream Roll

- 1 Sexy Roll

- 1 Try This Roll

- 1 Caterpillar Roll

- 1 Beer N Sake Special

Total: $50.91

Not too bad for 2 people and a lot of food! Needless to say I left full and satisfied.

9/2/11 Dinner- Lefty’s Chicago Style Pizza

Marcus wanted to hang out after work tonight so we went to a spot down the street from my house to get some food. He turned me on to these chicken strips last time and they are delicious.

The Chicken strips are nicely breaded and really meaty. You get about 6 of them but it will fill you up. The girl working said no one usually finished them but Marcus and I both did. We can eat.

The atmosphere is really cool. I like to sit on the patio area when it’s available but it can be pretty packed out there depending on when you go. Inside has a lot of Chicago memorabilia which is cool. A lot of drinks to choose from as well.

I’ll do another review here of the pizza in the future I’m sure.

If you are in the North Park area definitely hit this spot and if you go to Bluefoot down the block, Lefty’s sometimes brings the leftover pizza there after they close so if you’re lucky you may be able to snag a few slices for free!

What I had

-1 PBR

-Chicken strip basket w/ ranch

Total: $10.91

9/2/11- Nancy’s Taco Shop

So I figured I’d start this new blog out with one of my regular places.

Nancy’s taco shop is my go to spot when I’m at work. If I can’t figure out something to eat or I’m feeling like Mexican food, Nancy’s is where I go. It’s close enough that I can ride my bike there eat the food and come back within a reasonable amount of time and the people the work there are super chill. They have a pretty good menu selection.

They have Mexican and American food but I’ve only tried a couple sandwiches from here. Typically if I go to an “authentic” restaurant I get what they are known for.

Today I got 3 rolled tacos and a quesadilla. The 3 rolled tacos came with shredded beef inside, guacamole, cheese, lettuce and tomato on top. I also got an apple soda.

This is a pretty standard meal for me and once again Nancy’s did not dissapoint. I’m not a huge fan of their guacamole but its alright on the rolled tacos. The quesadilla is made perfect here in my opinion. cooked to just the right color on the outside with a little crunch on the ends of the tortillas and they use a 4 cheese blend.

Expect more updates from Nancy’s and check it out if you are ever in the area for sure!

What I had

- 3 rolled tacos

- 1 quesadilla

- 1 apple soda

Total: $8.43
